I like consoles more because I only have to upgrade my gaming thingy every 8-10 years, instead of 2-4. And, every game for xbox can run at full settings on the xbox. In other words, the games are designed for one set of hardware, so there are never compatibility or (major) performance issues. AND good gaming PCs cost a lot more than consoles.

Thanks for taking my advice Wink

Where I stand on this:

PC is better, but console is more convenient for me.
Also, I prefer controller to mouse, even though mouse allows you to aim with more precision.

PC:
Better for me doing solo stuff.
I can multitask on the PC, and I'm typically more patient with it.
Looks better, and allows for custom mods and maps.
Typically supports more players online.

Console:
Better for when I'm with my friends.
More laid back in some cases.
More relaxing gameplay - not as competitive (Big + for me).

In the end:
PC is technically better, but if my xbox wasn't so messed up I'd probably be on there a lot more for the simple fact that it's more laid back and relaxing.

no, you DO NOT have to upgrade every 2-4 years.

i will post why PC is better after my last exam (yay).

but i do agree with what Legal said, it may be more convenient for some people.

I've been playing alot more PC lately, but mostly because I feel like some games simply are better on console.

At first I wanted to play Bioshock on the console (I have it for both xbox and PC) but my brother recomended the PC. Now I can't imagine playing it with a controller. The hacking thing would just suck without mouse and there are too many weapons/powers to keep track on.

However, I did use a controller when I played the walking dead, since it's just a point and click game.

To me it comes down to either using a controller, which is more casual--or using keyboard/mouse which is more accurate. This is why I'm really looking forward to the steam controller, if it works as they say it does...

I dislike it when people say Controller is more casual. The Xbox competitive scene used to be so much bigger than the PC scene.

It's more casual in the way that it feels infinitely more relaxing for your arms. It's shaped perfectly for your hands and you can just hold it in your lap. You can sit as far away from the screen as you wish!

Playing on a keyboard and mouse can be VERY bad for your back and wrists if you play for too long, but you don't have that problem with a controller. That's what I mean by more casual.

I've found a way to be laid back while playing computer games. Typically speaking, I just slouch back in my chair like always, and just stretch out my arms a little more. Not playing competitively anyway, haha. (Similarly, I don't play much multiplayer, so whatever).

Also, I found out why I love playing Civ 5 so much! I can actually move around my room and do stuff while the turns are processing, making it a game that I don't have to concentrate as much on while I play it!

PC has better hardware and better graphics, but is complicated and expensive. Console can never keep up with hardware and graphics, but is usually cheaper and simpler to use. Not much money? Bad with computers? Pick a console. Lots o' cash? Good with computers? Pick a PC. Huge amounts o' cash? Seriously bored? Get both.

Some day I hope to use both, but for now, i'm poor and i'm a console kind of guy.Wink

okay, back. now, here we go:

um, i dont really know where to start. i guess i'll start with price.

my PC cost me $610, and is more powerful than both consoles, plus it can do other stuff. (i5 3570, 8gb, asus gtx 650ti)

the xbox one costs $500 (in Murica, here in aus it is $600 i think), plus $80 a year for gold in order to get the "full experience" (multiplayer and all that jazz).

the PS4 costs $400 ($500 in Aus), plus PS+ costs $70 a year.

now, if i was to own each for 4 years, the cost for the xbox will add up to $820. the cost for the PS4 will add up to $680.

my still PC costs me $610 (provided i didn't throw it off a cliff), and that wasn't even including the games.

now, i want to buy 3 AAA titles for each platform. the PS4 and xbox have them both for $60 each, but on steam each game is 75% off, which makes them $15 dollars each (correct me if i am wrong, i am doing this via google; i'm not good at maths). not to mention, the games have a multiplayer component. which platform would be best to buy on?
PC.

yes, kinda a vague example there, but i'll give you some examples of games i have bought SO cheap off steam.

i believe a about 6 months ago i purchased 14 or so games for $60. for a more better example, company of heros 2, a game that came out this year, is 33% off. i think i purchased FO3 for 2 dollars or so, same as FNV. looking at my emails, recently bought the fallout collection (includes all of the old fallout games) for 5 dollars, saving me 25 dollars i believe, as the package was discounted by 75% off if i remember correctly.

actually, looking at my emails, i think a majority of games i have bought have been 2.50 bucks. that is an absolute steal!

now the argument of "oh, but you have to change your parts every 2 years" is NOT true. people still have gtx 580's on their PC's from like 3 years ago, and they haven't need to change since. you CAN change your parts every x years if you WANT to, but only if you are really enthusiastic about PC tech. as long as your PC is more powerful than the consoles, you should be fine, it will last you as long, if not longer, than a console. and in the old days of consoles, wasn't there a new console very like 4 years?

lets move onto power/ performance.

now we all know that my pc can run stuff better than the consoles. i think we all know that as a fact, lol. although i play for gamelpay over graphics, i like to crank up them anyway. anyway, moving on.

customisability.

a console is a closed system, so your experience is driven by how MS/Sony want it.

however, on PC you can do what you want with it. you want just a PC for work? sure, go ahead. for editing? yup, there you go. a low end, cheap gaming PC? yep, you can build one for about 4-500 bucks. a mid range one? yup, sure, $600-700 will do you good (i'd rate mine in between mid to high range, because my processor is a high range one but my graphics card is mid range). but if you want a high end one, it'll be $1500 MAX. you can go higher if you want a machine that will turn into skynet (3xtitans/780's i74770k, 64gb of ram will destroy ANYTHING, but could cost you $3000.) an example of a high end PC would be a gtx 780, 16 gb RAM, i74770k.

on to the more software side, you can choose your OS, what things you want and dont want and so on.

now to the side of customisability that matters: GAMES.

not only can you change graphics settings to suit your needs, BUT (when they include support) there are one thing that makes PCs FAR superior. MODS.

by far. you can get experiences that you cant get elsewhere for free. also, some mods became into games, some example of mods turning into games include:
Counter Strike
Team Fortress
Natural Selection
Red Orchestra

some examples of good mods for games that are total conversions...

DayZ (ARMA 2)
Underhell (Source engine)
Black Mesa: source
Golden Eye: source
The Hidden (source)

there are also various mods that make the game look prettier, run better, and suit your gameplay desires/ needs, such as making a game have a more survival aspect etc.
an example of these would be for all Bethesda titles. in fact, Fallout NV had some stuff inspired by mods for Fallout 3, such as NV's Hardcore mode, Ironsights, Weapon Attachments and companion command wheel.

i think Mods are a major part of what makes PC gaming great, they have various communities dedicated to Modding.

there are various communities out there for everyone on PC, due to the customisability.

also, you dont have to worry about backwards compatibility. ever. you dont have to do a "throw out the old console because they are going to stop supporting it because the new ones are out" or "i wish i could play Halo 3 on my xbone" on PC.

want to use a controller? fine. my brother played Crysis 3 on my PC with a controller as he is more used to the 360. also, it could be possible to do a console- type thing where you use a controller to game on your PC and lie on the couch.

disadvantages of PC gaming/advantages of consoles.
if something breaks, it aint cheap (although the same can apply to consoles, look at PS4's launch and the 360's RROD) to fix it.

not very user friendly at times, especially when building a pc for the first time. you can, however send it off to a tech and he can build it for you for $50.

consoles are much more user friendly, and thus, more appealing. not to mention, you can jump and lie on the couch while you game, i miss that. (although like i said before it IS possible to do that with PC, but it is easier to do it with a controller)

consoles are more party-friendly than PCs. got a few mates over? play split screen on halo. its great fun, and more sociable/ better than listening to them laugh over teamspeak.

PC's aren't a simple "Plug in and play".

PC gaming requires patience. if you dont have that, then PC gaming isn't for you.

aaaand done. i probably missed something, but that is all.

In all honesty, I prefer consoles for gaming. To me, they are more user friendly. With PC, it can take forever to download a game, as well as installing it. On the console, it (usually) just runs, no long installations or downloads. And when there are downloads, they are usually short updates or DLC purchases.

And then there's the controls. I cant play any super-intense first person game beyond Minecraft on PC with a keyboard and mouse (Minecraft is a pretty slow game anyways). Game controllers just feel better in my hands, whether it be Xbox, Wii, or even PS3.

And the fact that you basically need sensitivity super high to turn more than 180˚ with  your mouse is unattractive to me. Its not like I drink 5 Red Bulls a day to the point where I can use twitchy movements to properly aim my mouse, and I do much better at games using lower sensitivities. I also feel like a lot of people miss stuff in their peripheral vision when they have higher sensitivity (although I know larger/wider TV screens are guilty of this too). I don't know how many times I've seen people in spectator mode with the highest sensitivity completely run past enemies in COD Black Ops (1) S&D only to get shot in the back. It also makes sniping a b*tch (for me at least).
So...consoles. My $0.02

1. if you are referring to downloading digital games taking too long to install on PC.... that's the same problem that happens on console. although, yes it is true that retail games on PC are installed on the hard drive (but wait.... wasn't the xbone gonna do the same thing?)

2. you do know you can use a controller on PC, right? just plug in and play..... and no, you don't need to have a really high sensitivity on games to be able to turn.... and sensitivity really is a matter of personal preference, you've gotta find that niche.

your sensitivity too high? you can look around really fast, but you'll find it hard to aim.
your sensitivity too low? you'll be more accurate, but you can't look very fast.

you have to experiment with the sensitivity of games, i do that in almost all games i play.

and what? you don't need to drink 5 red bulls to use a mouse effectively.... in fact, a controller is much harder to be accurate on on FPSs.

and regarding BLOPS1, once again, people mostly don't run around w/ high sensitivities. they find their personal preference. and people may miss things maybe because of reaction times, there is no way you can tell someone has a high sensitivity or not without making them spin around 20 times and look at how much they move their mouse. and also (another plus for PC gaming) you can change your field of view to GIVE you more peripheral vision.

I much prefer console gaming to be honest. You guys all know my opinion already. But one other nice thing with PC, as camy mention, is the PoV.

After playing Xbox one, I can honestly say the graphics are on par with most PCs.

I mostly play PC for the mod tools.

Once you go there and you're the creative type... you can't really go back. (Technically not true, I go back all the time. But overall, I can't even play video games anymore unless if I'm working on one myself. And it has to be the game I'm working with.)
