i dont think it is a waste of money because if like me and my mates your gonna get all the map packs you save money getting this and you get extra knifes, camos, double xp and other stuff so it is definitely worth it but only if your gonna get all the map packs and unlike Cod one its actually got good maps! and it not a disadvantage apart from more guns but with battlefield its what your personally good with! all got the same attachments, so no, no disadvantage and not a waste of money to me to be honest, if you dont like an 'advantage' then get the map packs, well worth it in my opinion :)maps are top notch, they just need to sort them out :/
i'd say that CoD do a better job at map packs, simply because it ain't DAY 1 DLC/ announced as soon as the game is launched. it is downright offensive.
sure, premium saves you money, but it shouldn't cost you $100 to get the "full experience" out of BF.
map packs are a terrible idea, and leave people at a disadvantage. it splits up the community terribly, like how CoD games have their community split every year since they release a game every year. also, if your mates buy them, you are going to have to buy them as well, because it leaves you at a huge disadvantage. i shouldn't have to spend extra money to get the full experience, (for example) i bought the game for $80, the game came out a month or so ago, and i expect the full experience, BUT you are already announcing DLC for the game? terrible.
and yes, the maps are well designed, but that doesn't change anything, i shouldn't have to spend so much money to get the most out of it.
look at Killzone Shadow Fall, they don't have a generic XP system, and they release map packs, weapons etc and updates for FREE. why can't all games be like that? so would you rather have the game pull a BF4 and charge you so the game actually costs $100, or would you rather them be free, like TF2, KZ:SF, CS etc. of course the latter.
i just can't really believe this stuff is acceptable these days, EA and other publishers are walking a thin line, then step over it a couple of times, then come running back on the thin line giggling like a little girl.
