Here we go. This is the new map I'm working on. I've made enough progress on here to not give up on it.

Since Allied Offensive got totally screwed over, I started a new one. Here it is. It's based in the Battle of the Caucasus, which happened from 1942 to 1944 in World War 2 on the Eastern front. I wanted a more vertical map than what most games can currently offer. (More during the second encounter, when you have to scale the cliff).

Anyway, here it is.

Looks pretty cool, although I think your old map looked a bit more fun.

I'm thinking about learning how to use gmod and make my own maps, but I haven't been able to find any helpful tutorial or guide on it..

My last map - while it was bigger, wouldn't have been that great for a map when I actually set it up. There's a lot of straight line fighting, not much diversity other than pushing inland. In this one, there's a lot more twists and turns, and the lines aren't as even. This one works a lot better for a Call of duty map. (I played my old map with ai on it before, just for fun, and it wasn't that good. However I wasn't able to implement the machine guns like I wanted to).

As for your attempt to go for gmod map making, go for it! I'm sure you'll find a decent tutorial to help you out with the basics. I don't know if the map maker is anything like Radiant (probably not), but I'm sure it's one of the easier and more useful map editors once you get the hang of it! If you get it to work, I can't wait to see what you'll get done!

Now I'm actually thinking about using Cryengine 3 instead of gmod. Because gmod looks just awful unless you download a bunch of graphics mods, while Cryengine 3 looks amazing right from the start.
And gmod, costs money while Cryengine 3 does not.

It doesn't look to difficult to use either, although it will take many hours to completely get the hang of it I imagine

Yeah, CryEngine3 is very hard to get the hang of. When I downloaded it for the cõntingency alpha, I tried messing around with it and it was super hard Sad Unity, on the other hand, is relatively easy.

But like I said, Cryengine 3 looks so beautiful!

One thing I'm not sure about though, is how to import models or textures. Because the free version doesn't seem to have that many unfortunately... :/

It's looking better! Just a question though, do you have any plans or ideas for adding dialogue once you're finished with the actual map?

Yes. The 2 Russians at the beginning will be your main allies (they can't die), and they will have their own names and voices. Glad you asked.

Yeah, here's the final update for that Caucasus map. I don't quite know what to say about it. I couldn't finish it, but I finished the playable area.

The outer area I didn't finish, most notably because I was totally done with the map. At this point, it was a useless project with fatal bugs (which is why I can't even release the .map file to the world, fatal bugs and custom textures).

Anyway, here's the video. I think I've only got my big project in World at War left (allied offensive), and if I can't finish it this time, during the fourth revision, then I'll forever be done with modding and editing and making games. It's been real in that aspect.

Video here:

Too bad it didn't get finished... I have alot of trouble with finishing things too. For example there are very few songs on the piano that I can play from start to finish, I usually just learn the first page and then get bored with it Razz

Thanks, but the new map that I'm making already destroys this Caucasus map in terms of looks, space of movement, lines of sight, etc. etc.

The last project I'm doing is also my first, haha. Allied Offensive. Razz This is the fourth revision of the project, and if I fail with this one, it'll be my last project with games for good haha. But I've learned a couple things about realism with geometry in the past few months which means that the areas I create look a lot more real then they used to, especially with good ole Guadalcanal. (Which will be in the game, but it'll be more historically accurate meaning no epic beach storming or anything like that).
