Democracy is just a terrible, terrible system... but it's usually better than dictatorship.

I would like to debate on this more, but I don't have time right now Razz

A system which a country is ruled by a single person is both a blessing and a curse. If you have a great, tolerant leader, your empire can flourish, and the people can be happy. However, if you have a horrible (or a dictator - which is where the word dictatorship comes from) then the whole system can topple in on itself due to corruption and whatnot.

Democracy is an inneficient system that works for the masses, however leaves many people behind, and those that get to the top can typically stay on the top by skewing the opinion of the stupid voters. (Like everybody who voted for Obama Wink ). However, it rules out the single person destroying the country and the collapsing the civil rights of the people, however this sort of total control thing CAN still happen!

Communism is a horrid system. Great in theory, yes... but bad in practice. Take a look at every communist regime out there. Great in theory, bad in practice.

all government systems are flawed, ESPECIALLY democracy.

it is the most ideal form of government, but it has major flaws. the system does not carter to everyone, it leaves some in the dust.

actually i remember watching an interview w/ Russell Brand a couple of months ago, and he said that when he was younger, he was a drug addict etc etc and democracy didn't support people like him. he called on for a new political system.

it was pretty interesting, here is the video:

and on "could communism work", it had some good ideas in that everyone is equal, but it didn't work.

I don't believe that communism can ever work, howerver socialism can be a great system.

The thing that seperates communism from socialism (besides that socialism does not have as many marxist elements) is that communism uses violence and revolution to reach it goals. Socialsim however is based on democracy and reforms, to decrease inequality.

And if we look at socialistic and modern countries, we will see that they are doing pretty great, have a high middle class, low poverty and a more equal society. Now I know that alot of people may not agree that this is the ideal society (like Mini) but you can't argue against the fact that it atleast works.

However communism does not work, I agree. On the one hand Cuba is actually a very impressive country in some aspects (100% free health care even if you're a tourist!) but on the other hand it is a very opressive country with high restrictions (not many people have internet there)

Socialism does work (yes, it does work Mini, even if you don't aprove of it's ideas) but communism does not work.

Agree 100% on this, especially the last part.

It is possible to pretty much create an illusion and fooling the people into believing that they have a say in things, while the big show is run by corrupted leaders and corporations.

I love how Douglas Adams makes satire on this in the Hitchhikers Guide. In that book, the galactic president is believed to be the supreme leader by the people, but in fact he has absolutely no power or authority at all! He is simply a outside face and someone the people can either blame or praise. This is true for us too!

Governments use propaganda to say they want "democracy" or "freedom", or "human rights" but it's usually only a trick to get the peoples support in what is actually a whole different agenda. (People only do good things if they have something to gain and nothing to lose, if we can learn anything from history it's that)

In fact, we are all more or less brainwashed into believing that democracy is a perfect and fool-proof system, just like we are brainwashed into the consumption lifestyle.

Democracy doesn't work, all we do is decide which people we want to have as our dictators, and then have the dictators be contolled by the bribes and influence of large corporations.
